Image

Jian describes a situation that turns out well despite the ineptitude of the protagonist(s). It is about the simple good fortune of the lame (betrayed or robbed). The northeast is the dark past-repeated obstruction or inhibition. Southwest is the inevitably bright future-a sense of reward. Modesty and humility, attributes of the southwest, are the requisites for receiving wisdom and its rewards.

Auspices

Events call for experts, but, even if experts cannot be found, all goes well. Caution, patience, humility and self-discipline pay off. If you are not anxious or selfish, you are given success.

Good for retreats, education, initiation, planning, and study.
Bad for travel, romance, marriage, moving house, and pressing forward.
Comment

Jian actually means hobbled or lame (frozen toes) but it describes a favorable situation. Good fortune comes to the halting and inept because they have the simple, good sense to wait or withdraw. From time to time good fortune comes despite our incompetence. When Jian is divined success is a gift of fate (friends). Since success, in this case, is far in excess of what you might reasonably expect, complete the process by sharing the rewards with others.
